Personal Property

Each policy coverage can be slightly different but the following is a
summary of the most common definitions. Please read your policy wordings
carefully for the actual coverage & restrictions that apply:
  • contents of the dwelling and other personal property you own, wear or use while on premises, which is usual to the ownership or maintenance of
    a dwelling
  • personal property while it is temporarily removed from your premises - this normally includes a sub-limit for students who are temporarily residing away from home and in full time attendance at school
  • property being moved to a new location within Canada providing the new location will be the principle dwelling
  • personal property at work (normally up to $500)

All policies contain what are called special limits of insurance where they restrict the amount of blanket coverage available on certain items. This varies by policy but the usual restrictions apply on the following:

  • books, tools & instruments used for a business, profession, or occupation
  • securities
  • money, bank notes, bullion, precious metals
  • watercraft
  • computer software
  • collectibles such as sports cards
  • jewellery, watches, gems, furs
  • numismatic property (coin collections)
  • manuscripts, stamps and philatelic property
  • silverware, gold ware

Please contact our office if you need help with understanding specific
wordings.
